What It's Actually Like to Work With Me: Social Media Management
If you've ever wondered what handing over your social media actually looks like — the real process, not the glossy one-liner on a services page — this is for you.
Working with a social media manager should feel like a relief, not another thing on your plate. So here's exactly how it works when you come on board with me.
Step 1: Say hi
It starts simply — you reach out via my contact page, drop me a DM, or get referred by someone who already works with me (hi, legend). From there, we book in a discovery call to chat through what you need, what's not working, and whether we're a good fit.
If you're local enough, I'm also happy to meet in person, sometimes a coffee and a proper conversation is the best place to start.
Step 2: Onboarding
Once we've decided to work together, you'll receive an onboarding questionnaire. This is where I get to know your business properly — your audience, your goals, your tone, what you love and what makes you cringe. The more you give me here, the better.
You'll also receive your invoice at this stage, and once that's paid, we're officially off and running.
Step 3: Send me your assets
Before I can create anything, I need your brand toolkit — logos, brand colours, fonts, and any existing templates or visual guidelines. You'll also need to grant me access via Meta Business Manager so I can get into your accounts and start scheduling.
Step 4: Captions first, content second
Here's something a lot of people don't expect: I start with words, not visuals.
Caption writing is more involved than it looks. For every post I'm thinking about the hook, the message, the call to action, the tone, the platform, and whether it actually sounds like you — not like a generic business account. I'll put together draft captions for every post and then you go in and make them yours, adding the detail and expertise that only you have. No one knows your business like you do.
This stage also lets me flag what content is needed — photos, videos, behind-the-scenes moments — so you can start gathering it.
If we're planning a content day together (which I'd always recommend for anyone starting fresh), I'll put together a shoot sheet so you walk in knowing exactly what we're capturing.
Step 5: You approve, then I create
Once the captions and content direction are signed off by you, the real work begins. This is where the hours go — editing reels, designing posts, sourcing audio, making sure every piece of content is on-brand, scroll-stopping, and actually worth posting. It's not a quick job, and it shouldn't be. Good content takes time, and this is where that time is spent.
You'll have the chance to review and approve the finished content before anything goes live. And as we settle into a rhythm together and you start to trust the process, this step often becomes more of a formality — most content gets scheduled straight out.
Step 6: Four weeks done, onto the next
I work in four-week blocks. That means each cycle, your content is planned, created, approved, and scheduled — then we roll straight into the next four weeks. No last-minute scramble. No wondering what's going out tomorrow. Just consistent, on-brand content showing up for your audience while you get on with running your business.
One thing that keeps everything moving smoothly: the quicker you can get me feedback, assets, or approvals, the quicker things get done. I work across multiple clients, so when everything is ready to go, it goes — but delays on one end do have a knock-on effect. I'll always communicate with you if that happens, and I'll always do my best to turn things around fast.
A note on collaboration
This works best when we're in it together. You know your business better than anyone — so if something is coming up, a promotion, a launch, a event, a offer, anything you want to shout about — the earlier you tell me, the better. I can sometimes work to last-minute campaign changes or react to something timely, but a planned strategy will almost always outperform a scramble. Give me the runway and I'll make it count.
The same goes for trends. I love a good trend as much as the next person, but jumping on one just because it's everywhere isn't always the right move for your business. Before we chase a viral moment, it's worth asking — who's actually going to see this? Is it your target audience, or just random people who'll never buy from you? Going viral for the sake of it makes for a fun day and not much else. Strategic content that reaches the right people will always win over a spike in views from people who have no interest in what you do.
Social media works when you're actually social
This one surprises a lot of people, but it's important — posting great content is only part of the equation. Social media platforms reward accounts that are active, engaged, and human. That means replying to comments, responding to DMs, and showing up in other people's content too.
The more you engage, the more the algorithm understands there's a real person behind the account — and the more it pushes your content out. If posts go up and then sit in silence, that signal works against you.
Replying to comments and engaging with others can be included as part of my packages, so if that feels like yet another thing to add to your list, we can talk about building it in. But whether it's me or you doing it, it needs to happen. Consistency in engagement is just as important as consistency in posting.
Let's talk about the thing you keep putting off
For most business owners, social media is the task that lives permanently at the bottom of the to-do list. You know it matters. You know you should be showing up. But between actually running your business and having some semblance of a life, it's the first thing that gets pushed to tomorrow.
That's exactly where I come in. You'll still need to be involved — it's your business, your voice, your expertise — but my job is to take the heavy lifting off your hands and make the whole thing feel manageable. Less overwhelm, more consistency, and content that actually sounds like you.
